Patrick was one of a kind. He was Patrick and no one else; kind, considerate, tolerant, supportive and loving in so many ways.
I met Patrick in Rotary. Though we come from the same hometown and have common relations, I never got to know him until he joined the Rotary Club of Accra South.
We immediately developed a close bond (more as brothers); as we shared common interests and a deep and most important strong commitment to the ideals of Rotary.
He became my younger brother and me his Efo Larry and I recall his unique way of saying the Efo Larry; especially if he wanted something done for our Club.
This is one of those occasions that death has hit me so hard that it is going to take a long time for me to heal.
We were partners at Rotary Conventions and in some cases shared apartments; Kuala Lumpur, Sao Paolo, Rio, Atlanta, a cruise to the Caribbean and Toronto.
Patrick was always fun to be with. He would find the most exotic and interesting places to visit and would encourage everyone to be part of the fun.
His home became my home, and mine his. I cannot imagine Rotary Club of Accra South without Patrick.
Life is a journey and every journey should end. However, the end of some journeys is like a bitter pill; difficult to swallow. This is just not right and it really hurts to realize that the baritone voice would no more be heard. It is just not right! We must however live with the reality that he is gone; knowing that some things are out of our control. I find peace and consolation in the wise saying of Demoustier as follows:
“The remembrance of the good done those we have loved is the only consolation when we have lost them.”
To Lynda and the children, may the good Lord keep you and protect you.
Patrick, keep walking in the other world, until we meet again.
