Uncle Patrick was one of a kind. He was outgoing, the life of the party. When mom would tell us he was coming to visit, we would mentally prepare ourselves for the adventures we would inevitably have.
He once decided to have a cookout for someone’s birthday and asked us to go shopping with him. We went to the store, bought everything we needed and got to the checkout to pay. After the lady scanned everything and told us the price, Uncle Patrick forgetting he was not in Ghana proceeded to say, “good, now reduce it” I was confused because as far as I knew we didn’t bring any coupons, and I could tell the cashier was confused as well asking what we would want to take out so the final total would reduce. Uncle Patrick said “nothing I am negotiating the price with you” The cashier replied “sir this is Walmart I don’t make the prices I just scan the items.” It was at that point that we decided we would be appointing someone else to do the grocery shopping from then on.
Our hearts are heavy as we recount our fond memories with you. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone, for part of us went with you the day God called you home. Thank you for being a blessing in our lives. You will be greatly missed.
Love Nana, Papa, and Kwaku Amoh
